MANY PEOPLE BUY BICHONS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT SHED - INDEED THEIR COAT
IS WOOL - SO TO KEEP IT TANGLE FREE IT NEEDS VERY DAILY DEEP BRUSHING
AND CUTTING ABOUT EVERY 5 WEEKS

The major problem new Bichon owners have is keeping the coat knot free when it is  long enough to protect the Bichon from the winter weather and to keep it from sunburn.

Medium size Slicker brush -

TYPICALLY 3.5" x 1.5" (8.5cm x 4.5cm) approx

If you can get a steel comb through to the skin you’ll know you’ve done it properly. The slicker brush should be used to brush the coat from the roots outwards against the lay of the coat. It can be used wet or dry but make sure that you have all knots out BEFORE you bathe the dog otherwise the knots will turn in to mats. (Think how cotton wool goes when wet). Pay particular attention to the areas behind the ears, inside the groins and the armpits.

The more often you groom and the more fun you make it the easier it will be on everyone.

Always place the Bichon at a suitable stable height (washing machine?) with a non slip surface eg rubber bath mat or rubber backed carpet square - take it slowly and make it enjoyable especially for puppies -
